Kings finish first in regular season

March 22, 2014 – Kings versus wolves (boxscore)

With both The Kings and wolves having already clinched a playoff spot, the only thing left to decide was who would be first for the entire playoffs. In the end the Kings routed the wolves 6 – 1.

In the first, the Kings got off to a fast start with two goals from Kirk and one assist from Jordan. The wolves tried to get on the board but Leo made some incredible stops to keep the score 2 – 0 for the Kings.

In the second, it was much of the same for Leo who was sharp once again. Jordan would score the lone goal for the Kings, where he scored from the side of the net.

In the third, the Kings added three more goals, two from Kirk for the hat trick, one goal and one assist from Isaac, and one assist from Jordan. The wolves finally scored in the last minute to spoil the shutout on a goal from saverio assisted by Darrin, but it was too little too late.

In the end it was a exciting race for first between these two teams, however the real competition begins in the playoffs starting this coming Saturday! Click here for Game one playoffs details. Good luck to all 4 teams in the playoffs!

Mustangs spoils Saints playoffs

March 22, 2014 – Mustangs versus Saints (boxscore)

With the Bulldogs losing in an earlier game, the Saints only needed a win and two points to make the TPWHL playoffs. Unfortunately the Mustangs who were already eliminated from the playoffs played spoiler in a 1 – 1 tie.

In the first, the Saints got off to a good start with a goal from Don for the 1 – 0 lead, assisted by Braden.

In the second, Nicole tied the game for the Mustangs which would be all the scoring in the game. Both goalies Tracy and Brad played great in a defensive game.

The Saints did tie the Bulldogs in the standings with 16 points for the final playoff spot, but the tiebreaker was head to head matchup where the Bulldogs won the regular season series 3 games to one over the Saints. In the end it was a close and exciting playoff race and the Mustangs only finished two points behind with 14 points. Congrats to all the teams!

2014 Paralympics in Review

Another Winter Paralympic Games came to an end on Sunday, March 16, and everybody on Team Canada has returned home. Canada had a strong showing at these Games, winning 25 medals (includes 10 Gold), and finishing third place in the medal standings.

Among the stars was veteran Paralympic skier Brian McKeever. He won three gold medals in his three individual events. He also became the first Canadian Winter Paralympian to win 10 gold medals in a career.

Sit-skiing veteran Josh Ducek won gold in the super combined and silver in the downhill. Ducek would go on to be Canada's flag-bearer in the closing ceremony.

Mac Marcoux made his Paralympic debut by winning three medals, including a gold one in the giant slalom. It was also exciting to see Mark Arendz win silver in the biathalon. The visually impaired biathlete collected Canada's first medal of these Games. He went on to win bronze in the 12.5K three days later.

The most surprising moment may have been Chris Klebl. The alpine skier took gold in the men’s 10K sitting cross-country race. It’s surprising because almost no one predicted the 42-year-old Paralympic veteran would win after having come up short in his previous two Winter Games.

The curling team returned to claim another gold medal in one of Canada's most popular sports (the first being hockey, of course). Their victory proved to the world once again that Canada has the best wheelchair curling team. They entered as defending Paralympic champions and as world curling champions.

The most bittersweet moment for many was when the sledge hockey team was forced to take home a bronze medal. While it still counts as a moment to be proud of, expectations were high that they would win gold. Their popular rivals Team USA claimed gold when they beat Norway (who claimed silver). Canada’s Adam Dixon scored four goals, the most goals of the 2014 tournament.

Canada’s other medalists of these Games were Caleb Brousseau (bronze), Kimberly Joines (bronze) and Chris Williamson (bronze) for their respective alpine skiing events.

Bulldogs move into playoff spot with blowout win over Mustangs

March 15, 2014 – Bulldogs vs Mustangs (boxscore)

With only two games remaining in the regular season and both teams battling for the final playoff spot, the Bulldogs blowout the Mustangs 7 – 2.

In the first, the Bulldogs got off to the fast start with 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, 2 from Lorne and one from Jerry. One of the goals was assisted by Meghan.

In the second, Lorne extended the lead to 4 – 0 with the hat trick. Two minutes later Mike got the Mustangs on the board, assisted by Nicole. However Lorne restored the 4 goal lead for the Bulldogs with his fourth goal of the game, assisted by Jerry.

In the third, Jerry scored two four the Bulldogs to complete the hat trick and Wei score the lone goal for the Mustangs. With the win the Bulldogs moves one point ahead of the Saints for the final playoff spot and unfortunately the Mustangs were eliminated from playoff contention.

The Bulldogs would need a win or tie or Saints lost to make the playoffs.

Bulldogs Inch closer to a playoff spot with win over wolves

March 8, 2014 – Bulldogs vs wolves (boxscore)

In a must win game for the Bulldogs, they come out with a huge 3 – 1 victory over the wolves!

In the first, Lorne opened the scoring for the Bulldogs off a long shot that got past the wolves defense and trickled through the goalie, assisted by Jerry and Scott.

Early in the second Jerry gave the Bulldogs a two-goal lead, who got to a loose puck with a large crowd in front of the wolves net and used his backhand to score. Scott would get his second assist of the game. Saverio would get the wolves on the board late in the second to pull within one at 2 – 1.

In the third, the wolves tried to tie it up but had a few shots go off the post. The Bulldogs would eventually seal the game from a goal by Lorne whose shot went off the wolves defense and into the net, assisted by Jerry. With the Win the Bulldogs move within one point of the Saints for the final playoff spot.

Lake Raiders complete comeback against Saints.

Saturday March 8th. 2014 12:30pm -1:30pm. With both teams fighting for third place in the standings, competition was intense. Action started quite early as the Saints Don Deschamps (unassisted) scored at the 4:00 mark. Soon after the Saints built on their lead with a Brandy Edwards solo effort at 7:08 closing out the 1st period.

The second frame began with the Lake Raiders getting on the board with a Jeremy Schofield marker at 1:23. Brandy Edwards (unassisted) put the Saints up 3-1 at 8:03. 45 seconds later Jeremy Schofield tucks one under the crossbar to pull the Lake Raiders within one. With the Lake Raiders serving a dangerous driving call, Brandy Edwards connects of a face-off win to Don Deschamps who beats goaltender Neil Mercer with the one timer taking a 4-2 lead into the third.

As we've see time and time in the game of hockey, a 2 goal lead can be deadly as the Lake Raiders poured it on in the third with four unanswered goals. 4:50 saw Jeremy Schofield (unassissted) net his 3rd for the hat trick. Erin Vassilakos (Jeremy Schofield) banged in her 18th goal on the season tieing things up 4-4. the Lake Raiders kept up the pressure taking the lead on a Jeremy Schofield solo line drive at 12:23, 12:57 saw the Lake Raiders complete the come back on a Jeremy Schofield shorthanded goal for the 6-4 victory.
