Wolves get first Win of season

October 25, 2014 – Wolves vs. Mustangs (Boxscore)

In a game where two teams were looking for their first win of the season, the Wolves would come out on top 6 – 4 over the Mustangs.

In the first period, the Wolves would open the scoring with two goals from Saverio Romano for a 2 – 0 lead. However the Mustangs would answer with two goals in the second half, one from Mike Iacovone who just got his backhand shot past the goalie and a late goal from Nicole Neeson assisted by Sergio Correia to tie the game at two.

In the second period, the Wolves Saverio Romano would quickly score 2 more goals two minutes apart to help regain the lead at 4 – 2. The Mustangs would answer once again with a power-play goal from Nicole Neeson, assisted from a great passing play from Mike Iacovone. But once again the Wolves would get back their two-goal lead with a late goal at 12:55 from Saverio Romano, assisted by Matt Vocino going into the third.

In the third period, both teams would exchange goals with Mike Iacovone's 2nd and Saverio Romano's 6th respectively late in the game. Earlier in the period the Wolves goalie Torrance Ho made a great save off his forehead on the penalty kill.

Mustangs Istok got his first point and Wolves Gabe was strong in his first game of the season.

Bulldogs comes back to beat Saints

October 25, 2014 – Bulldogs vs. Saints (Boxscore)

In a game where both teams were looking to go 2 – 0 to start the season, the Bulldogs would come back to win 5 – 3 over the Saints in an exciting finish.

In the first period, the Saints would get off to a fast start one minute into the game to lead 1 – 0 on a goal from Brandy Edwards assisted by Don Deschamps. Jerry Mariano would even the game at one for the Bulldogs at 13:40. But the Saints would retake the lead to go up 2 – 1 on another goal from Brandy Edwards at the end of the period.

In the second period, the Bulldogs would tie the game early in the period on Jerry's second goal assisted by David Donnelly. David Donnelly would give his team their first lead of the game at 3 – 2 on his first goal of the season, assisted by Meghan Hines in a dominating period.

In the third period, it was truly exciting where the Saints would tie the game at three's on Brandy Edwards hat trick goal at 6:24. It was looking like the game would end up being a tie with two minutes remaining. However David Donnelly would score 2 goals 12 seconds apart for the hat trick to lead his team to victory.

It was Greg Contaxis and David Donnelly's first game of the season.

Young Kings look strong in loss to Lake Raiders


October 25, 2014 – Lake Raiders vs. Kings (Boxscore)

In their first meeting of the young season, the overhauled Kings team came to play against the Lake Raiders, jumping ahead at 2:05 on a Issaac Vescio (unassisted) quick release beating the Lake Raiders veteran net minder for the first periods lone goal.

The second frame saw the Lake Raiders draw even early at 0:35 on a Jeremy Schofield's (Erin Vassilakos) shot. both sides exchanged excellent chances, with the Kings killing two in the crease penalties the score remained at ones. At 12:07 the Lake Raiders  broke the tie on a Jeremy Schofield solo effort, adding another at 14:30 to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The Lake Raiders kept on coming on a Jeremy Schofield (unassisted/fourth of the game) slap shot past Kings Goalie Leo Xu at 4:35 capitalizing on the man advantage. then with just under 5 minutes left Sniper Issaac Vescio (unassisted) put away a juicy rebound, ending the game 4-2 Lake Raiders.

2. Inhale, make abs tight and rotate torso to the right as right leg lifts to left knee, squeezing knees together.

3. Slowly exhale & return to starting position

4. Do 10 reps, and then repeat on opposite side.

Lake Raiders saddle Mustangs in season opener.


October 18 2014 – Lake Raiders vs. Mustangs (Boxscore)

In the 2014-15 season opener between the Lake Raiders and Mustangs, it was the Lake Raiders who took an early lead on the hard work of Erin Vassilakos (Sean Celsie, Steven Davis) at 0.57. With both side trading great chances, it was Mike Iacovone (Nicole Neeson) tieing things up for the Mustangs on a juicy rebound  at 9:15 of the first.

The second period saw Erin Vassilakos break the tie for the Lake Raiders on a solo effort at 6:45. a short time later the tenacious Mike Iacovone had a glorious opportunity to even things up for the Mustangs on a breakaway, only to be stymied but Lake Raiders net minder Neil Mercer. With 10 seconds remaining in the second period, the Lake Raiders added to their lead on a Jeremy Schofield (Sean Celsie) snap shot, taking a 3-1 advantage into the third.

The third period saw the Mustangs push back with a goal by Mike Iacovone (Nicole Neeson) at 2:38, only to see the Lake Raiders build on their lead on a Jeremy Schofield solo effort at 7:15, for a score of 4-2. The Lake Raiders continued to dominate with a unassisted marker by Erin Vassilakos at 13:10 for her first hat trick on the season. Not wanting to go out easy the Mustangs added yet another goal by Nicole Neeson (unassisted) in the the minutes of the third for a 5-3 final.

Saints dismantles defending champs Wolves

October 18, 2014 – Saints vs. Wolves (Boxscore)

In a game between a Saints team who just missed the playoffs last year and the defending champions Wolves, the Saints started the season strong with a 7 – 2 victory.

In the first period, the Wolves started the pressure early on the Saints but was turned aside by goalie Tracey Taylor. The Saints would eventually get on the board first with Brandy Edwards first goal of the season. She would extend the lead to 2 – 0 four minutes later at 10:17. The Wolves would finally get on the board one minute later to cut the lead in half on Saverio Romano's first goal of the season.

In the second period, the Wolves continued to have tons of chances but were unable to capitalize. Brandy Edwards would score the only goal of the for the Saints, assisted by Don Deschamps at 14:44 to take a 3 – 1 lead going into the third.

In the third, the Saints would dominate outscoring the Wolves 4 – 1 with Brandy Edwards fourth and fifth goals of the game. Don Deschamps would add his first two goals of the season with one assist, and one assist from Rayyan Rashid.

The Wolves Dwayne Hunter made his TPWHL debut.

Bulldogs Win Opening Game Over Kings

October 18, 2014 - Bulldogs vs. Kings (Boxscore)

In the opening game of the 2014 TPWHL season, the Bulldogs won 3 – 1 over the kings.

In the first period, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start with a goal from Jerry Mariano 24 seconds into the game. Jerry would score his second to give his team a 2 – 0 lead at the 7:35 mark.

In the second period, Bill Rankin got the Kings on the board with a scrambled in front of the Bulldogs net for his first of the season to cut the lead to 2 – 1. However two minutes later Jerry Mariano completed his first hat trick of season and restored the Bulldogs two goal lead going into the third.

It was a scoreless third.

The Bulldogs Meghan Hines played a strong game creating tons of chances for her team and Mohit Sharma had a solid debut in goal. It was also Abdullah siblings, Aziza and Elyas, first game together for the Kings.

Work off that turkey, here's your chair yoga pose for the week!

Remember 'pigeon' pose I shared a couple weeks ago? Well now here is a way to stretch even more!

IF YOU CAN NOT LIFT LEG NO WORRIES CAN BE MODIFIED

1. Sit up straight in chair or wheelchair, with back off chair
2. Make sure feet are shoulder width apart
3. Bring left leg onto right knee
4. Inhale, lower body down slowly from hips, only go as far as you can, you should feel stretch in your hips & groin area mostly
5. Come back up, slowly exhaling, return to straight posture, Repeat 3 times then go to other leg



 *if you CAN lift leg but need a little help, use a stretchy exercise band to help lift leg, just place under foot securely & lift*


MODIFICATION

1. Sit up straight in chair or wheelchair, with back off chair
2. Cross feet at ankles, place one hand on each knee
3. Inhale, lower body down slowly from hips, only go as far as you can, you will feel this in your back & legs
4. Come back up, slowly exhaling, return to straight posture, Repeat 3 times

2015 Pan and ParaPan American Games EPIC Commercial


Having seen the Pan-American games commercial on television a number of times.  My thoughts on the commercial is that it captures my attention with all the sports invading the city of Toronto. It's great to see ParaPan Am sports wheelchair basketball and racing included as well. I hope the commercial generates buzz, people of Toronto should come out and support our Canadian athletes in 2015.
